Packaging / Label Design
Product packaging or label ready for a printer
was this verdict helpful?
our verdict
Not really
the reasoning
Packaging has to survive an actual print production process — die lines, bleed, color profiles matched to substrate, sometimes regulatory label requirements. A design tool can mock up how it looks; it can't reliably produce print-ready files a commercial printer will accept without errors.
the prompt to rununverified draft
Use Canva only to mock up the visual concept and get client/stakeholder buy-in on direction — don't use this file for actual printing. Once the concept is approved, hand it to a packaging designer for production-ready files.
what you give up
- Print-production expertise (die lines, bleed, substrate-specific color profiles)
- Regulatory label compliance knowledge if applicable (food, cosmetics, etc.)
- A relationship with a printer who trusts the files
why people still pay
A bad packaging file doesn't just look wrong — it can mean an entire print run is unusable. This is one of the categories where the cost of a DIY mistake is genuinely higher than the cost of hiring it out.
